What is Jewel Crafting? In the World of Warcraft, it’s the ability to imbue magical properties into jewellery such as neck pieces, rings, and a variety of trinkets. They also make use of this ability to cut gems that then enhance stats once applied to equipment. This only applies to equipment that has the sockets for it but these are fairly common towards the end-game content.
To begin with, if you haven’t experienced jewel crafting, it is fairly expensive to level up from at least 1-300 because of a lack of supply in the materials needed. However, if you haven’t decided on your professions, you may want to consider leveling Mining side by side as the ore provided will definitely come in useful. As with any crafting profession, there won’t be much opportunity for profit earlier on but there are many advantages toward end-game content that attract players to spend time and gold improving this profession.
The profession of jewel crafting provides players who have a high skill in it to cut unique gems that are only for personal use making it unavailable for anyone else who doesn’t have the profession. They provide significant increases compared to normal gems and are considered useful in any environment be it in a raid or in pvp.
Another advantage to picking up jewel crafting is that if you possess multiple characters only one of them has to have the profession. All the gems cut by a jewelcrafter can be passed around as they aren’t bound on pickup. This provides an extra slot on a different character to perhaps perform a different profession which they may need. In comparison to the other professions, jewel crafting has its own daily quest where they’re provided with tokens which can be used to exchange for recipes. This is even more convenient as you’re able to decide what type of gems you’d like to produce instead of relying entirely on drop rates like some other professions.
